The NIED Resource Centre is a National Resource Centre that provides information to NIED staff and other ministerial institutions, regarding the education system in Namibia, and related research. The center serves as the main contact institution with regard to the Namibia Education system and related issues. It also provides access to current developments in various areas of research. The institution's interlibrary network exposes the Namibian Education system to the local and International community.

The functions of the center relates to the mission statement of NIED which states that:

It is with this background that NIED and its Resource Center is a national resource. It helps our staff and Educational planners and players improve the quality and relevance of education through curriculum design and material development. The center designs, stocks and supplies the current and previously designed curricular and relevant book and material resources to relevant educational destinations.

The NIED Resource Centre is the umbrella under which all other resource Centers function. It co-ordinates and provides necessary support in terms of information and resource mobilization. Resource mobilization in material support e.g. interlibrary loan system, book and material distribution.

The structure of Teacher Resource Center network was an initiative of the ministry in its 1991 five year development plan of teacher improvement programme which was intended to meet the critical needs of under- qualified teachers in the field during the pre and post independence era.

This translated to the formation and foundation of the National Teachers Resource Centre Network (NTRC), which currently has 22 main centers, and 8 District and local TRCs nation wide. The status of which vary from Regional, District to local TRCs. This was done with the view to avail close proximity, in order to offer much needed professional and material support to our clients/teachers.
