The National Institute is divided into two divisions: The Curriculum Research and Development and the Professional Resource and Development. The Administrative Section is coordinating all the administrative issues.

The Curriculum Research and Development division is mainly responsible for developing and updating curriculum materials used in Namibian schools. This division also evaluates school textbooks, and is also responsible for research in the above mentioned areas.

The Professional and Resource Development division also consists of the NIED Resource Centre. The Professional Resource and Development section is mainly responsible for in-service and pre-service teacher education. The division also conducts research in this areas, and assists the Curriculum Research and Development division with research.

The Administrative Section also includes the cleaning staff.
